I live among the rocks and sand

Far away in regions of arid land

My ears are quite enormous I am told

Six inches long and a sight to behold

They help me track my prey

An alert me if enemies are at bay

I might be small but I’m fast and quick

I can dig sand with speed when I kick

I travel at night hunting when food is plenty

To find a tasty morsel of insects, rodents,

I might find two or maybe even twenty

Jumping high in a mouse like leap

I catch my prey with my front feet

Water is sometimes hard to find

So plant roots is what I have in mind

Endangered and threatened by humankind

I stay my distance and with ears alert

I survive another day unhurt

Sitting high up in a tree

Like a silent ninja looking at me

You are a majestic who dwells in mystery

A creature known in ancient history

So sad little one you are endangered

To the world you are becoming a stranger

Don’t worry though we will protect you

Even though you are but a few

So sit my pretty munching on wild bamboo

And don’t give a thought to who chases you

Far in China away from me

I understand the bears roam free

Little Red Panda your friends are few

The sanctuaries wish these numbers grew

Slow at breeding, babies just aren’t made

It seems your population will soon fade

So let’s protect our little friends

So cute, so small, on people he depends

They seem to be so tough and strong

But it seems their life doesn’t last too long

Help save these beautiful little creatures

With their big brown eyes and beautiful features

Sparrow

She travels lands beyond the sea

To spread the peace is her plea

High upon her trusty steed

She goes where she is in need

She was trained from birth to be so strong

And stand against all that is wrong

She scours the land at her will

Until only left is man’s good will

Nature's Wonder

A beauty of nature in every way

Near serene blue water and ponds

A vision that swims most everyday

With a quack sound he responds.

He primps and cleans

Parting each feather in between

A miracle of nature you will agree

His colors are amazing a sight to see

He is a blaze of orange, green and red

With bold stripes of black and white

Scattered about his small soft head

They are a natural to this land

Somewhere in China and around Japan

Europe was introduced in years gone by

So they are now abundantly free to fly

Their nest is high in the trees

When they hatch they all fall free

A rainbow of colors much more than three

His wings like sails, held high above

A sight to see I will never tire of

I stood in awe and was amazed

Such a graceful duck in many ways

The Mandarin Duck is surely a prize

God truly is an artist but that’s no surprise
